Feature Breakdown: Crazy Egg vs. Convert.com
1. A/B testing & personalization
Both Crazy Egg and Convert run A/B tests, but the latter offers more in-depth capabilities that also cater to product and engineering teams.
Crazy Egg
Crazy Egg lets you run two types of A/B tests: regular split tests and multi-armed bandit tests, which shift traffic toward the winning variant while the test runs, rather than splitting evenly until it ends.

The tool automatically calculates statistical significance during the test, so you know how confident you can be in the results and when it’s safe to finish the test.
You either create the test variants in the visual editor (easy for marketers without coding skills) or split traffic between URLs.
Every variant gets its own heatmap and session recordings. So you can quickly check how users engaged with each.
You can also use A/B testing to personalize the user experience. For example, create localized website versions. Just send all traffic from the relevant user segment to this version.
Convert.com
Just like Crazy Egg, Convert runs split URL tests, offers a visual editor, dozens of targeting filters and goal templates, and automatically generates heatmaps and recordings for both variants.

In addition, you get multivariate and multipage funnel tests, server-side experiments, and feature flags with gradual rollout and a kill switch, and Shopify shipping rate testing.
Convert’s testing engine is more powerful. It uses Frequentist and Bayesian engines, offers custom controls, sequential testing, sample-ratio mismatch checks that flag uneven traffic splits, and outlier detection.
Overall, Convert testing is a better fit if you need it for product development, but most of the features aren’t necessary for typical CRO projects.
For personalization, Convert doesn’t use A/B testing, but a separate experience called Deploy. The principle is the same, though: you show targeted content to a segment.
There’s also Nexus, a 1:1 personalization product, which lets you tailor the page content to individual users (e.g., CRM contacts), but it requires a separate subscription. Crazy Egg offers this capability as an add-on.
2. Heatmaps
Both Crazy Egg and Convert offer heatmaps and create them automatically for every test variant. Crazy Egg lets you split a map by more audience attributes, including conversion status, also on the same screen.
Crazy Egg
Crazy Egg gives you five heatmap types.ย
- Click Maps and Scroll Maps visualize where visitors click, how far they scroll, and which page sections they spend the most time on.
- Confetti Maps plot every individual click, color-coded, with every color representing a different visitor segment (e.g., referrer, mobile vs. desktop, new vs. returning, etc).
- Overlay Maps show you how many visitors click on different page elements, and List Maps give you a table with a detailed breakdown of all interactions.ย

Crazy Egg doesn’t sample traffic by default, so you see data from every visitor.
Finally, you also get Instant Heatmaps, which run on any page without prior setup, and help you prioritize pages for deeper analysis.

Convert.com
Convert covers the same core visualizations as Crazy Egg: clicks, taps, and scrolls. It adds mouse movement maps and a few filters, like screen resolution.

However, it doesn’t have a Confetti map equivalent, so you can’t compare how different segments interact with the page on the same screen. There’s no Overlay or List Map either, so you can’t analyze user engagement with mobile elements, like sticky buttons or menus.
Another difference: to analyze heatmaps, you must either run an experiment or create a Deploy.
3. Session Recordings
Both Crazy Egg and Convert offer session recordings, but Convert only records sessions with friction signals.
Crazy Egg
Crazy Egg Session recordings capture clicks, scrolls, mouse movement, and page transitions.
It automatically tags the sessions with behavioral signals like rage clicks and dead clicks, ecommerce actions like add to cart and checkout start, and form interactions like submit and abandon.

The tags act as filters, allowing you to find relevant sessions.
Crazy Egg doesn’t sample your traffic, but it caps the number of tracked pageviews and recorded sessions. So technically, there’s a risk you run out of credits.
However, you choose which pages to track and what percentage of traffic to track. So you get complete control of how you spend your tracked pageviews and recording allowance.

Finally, Crazy Egg keeps the sessions up to 2 years, depending on your plan.
Convert.com
Similar to Crazy Egg, Convert produces playable session replays you can filter and share with your team.
But there’s a huge difference:
It records sessions only when its system, called Convert Signals, detects frustration signals or errors. So, you only get to view recordings that show issues to solve, which saves you time looking for relevant sessions.
This is reasonable but somehow limiting.
The fact that the session doesn’t surface bugs or usability issues doesn’t mean you can’t optimize the page more. Or learn how to enhance the user experience on other pages.
Crazy Egg lets you find such sessions with tags, and its AI surfaces top recordings to watch. But you can still watch all the other sessions on a specific page.
4. Web & Conversion Analytics
Crazy Egg includes web analytics, retroactive funnels, and conversion analytics, allowing you to diagnose and prioritize leaks to fix. Convert has none of these, so you need a third-party tool.
Crazy Egg
Crazy Egg’s Web analytics gives you core insights into your website traffic, like sessions, unique visitors, bounce rates, new vs. returning visitors, and more. It tracks traffic through its own script, or you connect it to Google Analytics 4 and import all historical traffic data, segments, and events.

Conversion funnels visualize how visitors progress through the journey. For example, how they convert at each checkout step and where they drop off. They are retroactive, so they fill with historical event data when you build or edit them.

Conversion analytics tracks the same conversion events as funnels: clicks, page views, form submissions, ad pixel triggers, ecommerce platform events, and custom HTML tags. There’s also a server-side conversions API that gets around ad blockers and cookie restrictions.

Convert.com
Convert has no web analytics, no funnel reporting, and no conversion analytics.
Instead, it assumes you run an analytics stack elsewhere and offers integrations with GA4, Mixpanel, Amplitude, and Adobe Analytics.
Interestingly, Convert also integrates with Crazy Egg, which shows it doesn’t offer the same capabilities.
5. Surveys and popup CTAs
Crazy Egg includes on-site surveys free on every plan, with responses linked to the session recordings. Convert has no survey product.
Crazy Egg
Crazy Egg Surveys come with a WYSIWYG editor, 50+ templates, and behavioral triggers, so you can fire one on exit intent, after a scroll depth, or on a specific click.

Each response links back to its session recording. When someone tells you the pricing page was confusing, or they couldn’t find the product you’re definitely stocking, you can watch what exactly they did and what caused the friction.
Popup CTAs are banners, popups, and sticky bars you can use to engage users on your page.ย They use the same visual editor and triggers as surveys, and have their own template library.

Convert.com
Convert has no native survey product. So if you want to collect feedback on your site, you need another tool in the stack.
Convert does offer custom popups, though. They are available from the Pro plan upwards, and you can use them for on-page user engagement and personalization.
They come with the standard trigger set (click, time delay, page load, scroll), and the button actions include opening a URL, closing, and running custom JS, but you can’t use them to capture information, say email addresses.

Their real strength is that they benefit from Convert’s advanced experimentation analytics and personalization targeting.
6. AI and Agentic Workflows
Both tools have an MCP server. Crazy Egg also exports behavioral data in an AI-ready format for use in any tool, while Convert.com’s AI features stay inside Convert and support experiment setup.
Crazy Egg
Crazy Egg embeds AI Analysis into web analytics, heatmaps, recordings, and surveys. It looks for patterns in page performance and user behavior and analyzes open-text responses.

For deeper analysis, Crazy Egg exports heatmap and web analytics data as AI-formatted JSON. You upload it to Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, or whatever you already use, and query it there.
Or you can access Crazy Egg data directly from your AI tool via the MCP server. This lets you analyze your data with your LLM and run agentic workflows.
Speaking of agentic workflows, Crazy Egg has just launched Tasks, which coordinates the full optimization process. It sets up reports, reads the data, picks patterns, produces a report with findings, and even drafts web page variants for A/B testing.

Convert.com
Convert also has an MCP server, which helps with experiment setup and analysis.
Convert also has an AI Wizard in its visual editor to help you draft website copy, and Code AI in the code editor to save you time building variants.
Finally, Convert Intelligence, available in beta, is an in-app AI assistant that sets your experiments and interprets the results.
