Paper planners and calendars can be pretty, but theyโ€™re not practical in todayโ€™s fast-paced, online-centered work world. Thatโ€™s where nTask comes in. As one of the dozens of project management software services on the market, nTask offers many of the same toolsโ€”team management, task management, Gantt charts, Kanban boards, issue tracking, and the like. Plus, nTask is more affordable than competitors. But how well does the product stack up? Weโ€™ll explore nTaskโ€™s strengths and limitations in this review.

nTask Compared to the Best Project Management Software

Weโ€™ve done extensive research on project management products to find out which services deliverโ€”and which donโ€™t. See our favorites in our list of the best project management software. Youโ€™ll find our three top picksโ€”the Golden Eggsโ€”below.ย

Monday.com marries a highly customizable project management system and sophisticated CRM into one powerful software service. Test it out with a 14-day free trial.

With whiteboards, chat boxes, tasks, dashboards, and docs, ClickUp offers the best virtual workspace out of all the brands we tested. Start using ClickUpโ€™s free plan today and upgrade as needed.ย

If youโ€™re attached to spreadsheets but want something more collaborative than Excel, Smartsheet was designed with you in mind. With a 30-day free trial, thereโ€™s plenty of time to see how you like Smartsheet.

nTask: The Good and the Bad

Every software product comes with strengths and weaknesses, including nTask. Understanding these pros and cons can help you make an informed decision about whether or not to use a tool. Letโ€™s take a look at where nTask excelsโ€”and where it needs some improvement.ย

What nTask Is Good Atย

nTask has less of a learning curve than some of its competitorsโ€”without sacrificing its impressive organizational capabilities. We also like how nTask makes it easy for you to track your time across multiple projects. If you run into any issues, nTaskโ€™s friendly support team will help you get back on track.ย

Clear and accessible time tracking: Whether your team members bill by the hour or you want to know how long each task takes, nTaskโ€™s built-in time tracker feature can help. Each task box comes with a timer in the upper left-hand corner. Since itโ€™s right there in your task box, you wonโ€™t forget to turn the timer on or off as needed.ย

Each timer is connected to one user and one task. Users get a snapshot of their work hours at the end of a day or week of work. They can submit their nTask timesheets to the manager for approval, too. This time-saving feature gets a lot of praise in user reviews. When we tested it, we were impressed at its ease of use.ย

Simple project overviews: Some project management software crams an overwhelming amount of information into a task box or project dashboard. Not nTask. Youโ€™ll get a tidy project overview that breaks down whoโ€™s working on each project, how much weekly capacity each person has, and the budget.ย

You can then break the project into tasks and subtasks. A satisfying line will cross out when a team member completes a task and checks the box. You can delete the task if you want to or leave it there for reference. The nTask project overview dashboard will reflect each update instantly, allowing for seamless collaboration across your team.ย

Strong collaboration features: Countless teams work remotely, which means that collaboration is essential to the success of any project management software. Thankfully, nTask does an excellent job helping co-workers collaborate. Every project has a live chat function for easy real-time communication.ย

If you donโ€™t have time to respond to a chat message right away, you can mark an item as Reply Later, and itโ€™ll go into a separate tab for easy review later on. You can communicate with your team from within tasks and subtasks, embed videos, attach documents, or paste URLs that everyone can see.ย

Highly intuitive interface: Some of the more sophisticated project management software takes time to learn. You might need to pause all of your projects just so you can move everything over to the new softwareโ€”and then keep those projects paused so you can teach your team how to use the system.ย

Not so with nTask. This project management software is one of the most intuitive, user-friendly services weโ€™ve ever seen. Youโ€™ll pick up the process of making new projects, tasks, and subtasks within minutes. Switching between Board and Project views is as simple as clicking a button. So is viewing your work in Calendar, List, and Grid views.

You and your team will be up and running with nTask in no time.ย

Solid customer support: If you do run into any questions or concerns, you can search nTaskโ€™s extensive knowledge base or open the chatbox in the lower right-hand corner of your dashboard. Itโ€™s always ready and waiting to help you get answers. You can submit a message on the chat even if the nTask customer support team is away.

If youโ€™d rather submit a ticket via email, you can do that at the bottom of the nTask support page. Even though itโ€™s not instantaneous, nTaskโ€™s customer support is friendly. The team will do everything it can to help resolve whatever issue youโ€™re having.ย

What nTask Is Lacking

No software service is perfect, and that goes for nTask too. Despite its strengths, nTask struggles in a few key areas. Its mobile apps leave much to be desired. Its enterprise options are limited. And the free version of nTask is just a shadow of the full, paid program. Letโ€™s take a look at where nTask could improve.ย

Limited customization options: If you run a medium-to-large team or just like to make your dashboard look how you want it to, nTask may disappoint. From workflows to dashboard layouts, nTask doesnโ€™t offer much in the way of customization options.ย

You can contact nTask directly, and the team can customize the layout for you, but that takes time, energy, and money you might not have. Youโ€™d be better off using software like Monday.com or Airtable, which you can customize to fit your teamโ€™s needs right out of the box.ย

Unreliable mobile apps: Most people take their phones or tablets almost everywhere. Weโ€™ve yet to meet someone who doesnโ€™t appreciate being able to manage projects on the go. Unfortunately, nTaskโ€™s mobile apps need attention. While they come with plenty of potential, theyโ€™re buggy and unreliable. nTask doesnโ€™t appear to update them frequently, either, which isnโ€™t a good sign.

Lackluster free version: Our favorite free versions of project management software limit the number of users but leave functionality largely intact. nTask limits both. The free version of nTask only allows up to five users. And some of the softwareโ€™s best featuresโ€”projects, Kanban boards, bulk actions, Gantt charts, subtasks, task dependencies, and recurring tasksโ€”are also missing.ย

Weโ€™d rather see a free version with fewer users and more features so individuals could thoroughly test the tools before deciding to bring on the whole team. To be fair, we realize that the Premium Plan, which includes most of nTaskโ€™s best features, only costs $3 per user per month. But our principle of preferring a more robust free version is still important to noteโ€”and may be one you share.ย ย

nTask Options and Pricing

nTask offers product management software for teams of up to 50 people on its Basic, Premium, and Business plans. For more users, youโ€™ll need to contact the nTask team directly to set up an Enterprise plan.ย

The Business plan includes everything in the previous plans but adds custom roles and permissions,ย

risk tracking, advanced reporting, priority support, custom fields, and expanded storage space. If your team is large enough to require the Enterprise plan, youโ€™ll receive a dedicated account manager who provides custom onboarding to you and your team.ย

nTask pricing

And no matter which plan you choose, you can collaborate with others using the convenient team chat feature.ย

Hereโ€™s how the pricing structure works:ย

  • Basic Plan: free for up to 5 users
  • Premium Plan: $3 per user per month, billed annually

nTask in Summary

If you work with a small or medium team and donโ€™t want to spend time learning and customizing a project management system, nTask is an excellent choice. The software is easy to use, helps teams collaborate from within projects and tasks, and includes some of the best time-tracking features weโ€™ve ever seen in a project management software service.ย

nTask isnโ€™t for everyone, though. Large teams that require customized workflows and advanced features might find one of our Golden Eggs a better fit. And for even more choices, take a look at our list of the top project management software.ย
