FaxZero is a freemium online fax service that makes it easy to send faxes in the US and Canada without an actual fax machine. The platform also supports international faxing for a fee. Overall, it’s a bare-bones online fax service that’s suitable for sending the occasional internet fax. But for high-volume faxing and business users, FaxZero falls short compared to other services in this category.

FaxZero: The Good and The Bad

The Good

Easy to Use: Anyone can send an internet fax via FaxZero in a matter of seconds. Just fill in your name, email address, and phone number along with the recipient’s name and fax number—that’s it. You can quickly attach files with a single click and easily customize the text of your cover page. There’s zero learning curve or technical experience required to use this service.

Supports Multiple File Types: You can use FaxZero to upload a wide range of file types that go beyond a basic scan. The platform supports files like PDF, DOC, DOCX, RTF, PNG, JPG, XLS, XLSX, TXT, HTML, TIFF, GIF, and PPT. So you likely won’t have to worry about converting your files to meet a specific requirement before sending. You can use FaxZero to attach Microsoft Word docs, images, spreadsheets, and Powerpoint files with ease.

Free Online Faxing: FaxZero is 100% free for online faxing within the US and Canada. The free fax service works for a maximum of three pages plus a cover page and is good for up to five free faxes per day. So including the cover page, you can send up to 20 pages per day using FaxZero without paying a dime. For non-business use and low-volume needs, this quick and free service gets the job done.

Inexpensive International Faxing: FaxZero supports international faxing, which is not something offered by every online fax service out there. There are more than 200+ countries and territories to choose from, meaning you can use FaxZero to send a fax nearly anywhere in the world. The international fax price varies based on the cost to dial that location, but it’s typically around $3.63 for up to 15 pages. This is a very reasonable price for the service.

No Account Required: You don’t need to create an account or sign up for anything to use FaxZero. The only thing you need to provide is a valid email address. Other online fax services on the market do require a sign-up before you can send anything, which can be a pain for low-volume users and one-off faxes. Most users find this perk to be fast and convenient.

Email Confirmation: When sending a fax via FaxZero, you won’t have to worry about whether or not it was delivered. They’ll send you an email confirmation when the fax goes through. If the fax fails for any reason, you’ll also get an email explaining that something went wrong. Just be aware that premium faxes take priority over free faxes, meaning your free fax won’t jump to the front of the queue if paid users are sending them ahead of you.

The Bad

Site Advertisements: FaxZero’s online fax service is supported by ads on the website. The ads aren’t necessarily intrusive, but they’re a bit of an eyesore and make the overall aesthetics of the page feel unappealing. It’s also worth noting that many of these ads are for other online fax services. So if you’re not careful, you could click something that says “Free Online Fax” or “Sign Up For Free Fax” and get redirected to another platform.

FaxZero Branding on Cover Page: If you’re using the free fax service, the fax cover letter is going to contain FaxZero’s branding. This can sometimes confuse the recipient, as they might not realize exactly who the fax is coming from. This is problematic for business use, as you’d want your company’s logo on the cover page—not a third-party service.

Limited Support: FaxZero does not list a support phone number or contact hours on its website. They do provide an email address, but many users report issues with getting a prompt response to that general mailbox. With that said, FaxZero does have a fairly detailed FAQ page that can answer most of your questions, should they arise.

Poor Quality for Graphics-Heavy Faxes: FaxZero is a better option for sending documents that are mostly text-based. If you’re sending images, you can expect most of the details to be lost and blurred. The quality of graphics on the recipient’s end likely won’t be close to the original file you sent. So it’s best to stick with FaxZero for faxes that are primarily text.

Page Limitations: The free fax service from FaxZero only supports up to three pages. You’re also capped at just five free faxes per day. Even if you’re using the premium fax service, you cannot send more than 25 pages in a single fax. These restrictions might be fine for basic faxes, but they’re obviously not adequate for high-volume senders and large documents.

Basic Security: FaxZero uses HTTPS to encrypt file uploads and SSL or TLS when sending faxes from its servers. These are essentially the bare minimum requirements for online faxing and shouldn’t be used for sending legal information, healthcare information, customer information, payment information, or other sensitive data. If your industry has tight data security regulations, this service probably won’t be sufficient for you to remain compliant.

FaxZero Pricing and Options

FaxZero Pricing

FaxZero’s pricing is very straightforward. There are two main options to consider—free fax or premium fax.

As the name implies, the free faxing service does not cost anything. You can use it to send up to three pages plus a cover letter, and you’re limited to five free faxes per day. The premium service, also known as “almost free fax,” costs just $2.09 per fax.

Free faxing is only available within the US and Canada. The price for international faxing via FaxZero varies based on the cost to dial that particular country. For most countries, FaxZero charges $3.63 for up to 15 pages.

FaxZero does a good job of keeping its prices low. In August 2021, they raised the price of premium faxes from $1.99 to $2.09, which is the first increase since FaxZero launched back in 2006. A $0.10 increase after 15 years is not something you can complain about.

Compared to other free fax services, FaxZero’s three-page limit is a bit low. There are other online fax services that let you send up to ten pages for free. However, those services do require you to sign up and create an account before you can send anything—FaxZero does not.

Other online fax services start around $5 or $15 per month, depending on volume. So if you’re going to send more than two or three faxes per month, it will probably be more cost-effective to use a subscription service. Those plans come with anywhere from 100 to 1,000+ pages included each month, which is a great deal for business users and high-volume senders.

It’s worth noting that FaxZero does have a pretty good refund policy. If a premium fax sent within the US and Canada fails, FaxZero will refund your entire $2.09. For international faxes, they refund up to 90% of the cost, meaning you’d pay just $0.36 for a failed attempt to an international number.

FaxZero Free Fax

Many people are drawn to FaxZero for its free fax service, and for a good reason. It’s arguably the simplest online fax solution on the market today if you just want to open your computer and send a fax in seconds.

There’s no lengthy sign-up process or account creation required. Just head to www.faxzero.com, fill out the fax information, upload any files, and you’re done. This entire process can literally be completed in under one minute.

Another cool part about FaxZero is the ability to send quick messages without uploading any documents. If you just want to send a quick message via fax, simply enter text in the designated space for your cover page.

Just be aware that all free faxes will contain FaxZero branding on the cover page. Free faxes are also limited to just three pages plus a cover and five free faxes per day.

Compared to other free online fax services, FaxZero is a bit more limited in what you can do.

FaxZero Premium Fax

To lift some of the tight restrictions on FaxZero’s free service, you can send a premium fax for a small fee. At just $2.09 per fax, you’ll get the following perks:

  • No FaxZero branding on cover page
  • Up to 25 pages per fax
  • Priority delivery over free faxes
  • Optional cover letter

Eliminating the FaxZero branding from your cover page is an absolute must for any type of business fax. It looks really unprofessional to recipients if there’s a company logo other than your own on any correspondence.

For any faxes longer than three pages, it’s worth the $2.09 to just send a premium fax, as opposed to sending several faxes in multiples of three.

Paying for a premium fax is easy. FaxZero accepts PayPal, Venmo, debit cards, and credit cards.

$2.09 for a fax is a good deal if you’re not faxing on a regular basis. High-volume users can usually get a better deal using a subscription service. For example, you can pay less than $8 per month for up to 500 pages using the entry-level Nextiva vFax plan.

The cost to send 500 pages with FaxZero premium would cost over $40, even if you’re maxing out each fax with 25 pages.

FaxZero International Faxing

Sending an international fax with FaxZero is easy. There are more than 200+ different countries and territories to choose from.

Compared to other online fax services, FaxZero actually supports more international locations than most. Even some of the highest-rated online fax companies only offer international faxing to around 50 countries.

All you need to do is select the country from the international fax list, and FaxZero will automatically add the country code to the receiver’s fax number. Here’s an example:

FaxZero Receiver Information box with red arrow pointing to where sender inputs fax number

You won’t see the cost to send an international fax until you click the country. Then the price will be displayed at the bottom of the fax information section of the page.

FaxZero says that it charges $3.63 per fax for most countries. For the purpose of this review, I clicked Belgium since it was towards the top of the list, and the price was $4.34. I checked another handful of countries and did not see a price higher than this. In fact, some of the countries were the exact same price as a regular premium fax, $2.09.

Similar to premium faxes, international faxes do not contain any FaxZero branding on the cover page. They also get priority delivery, and the cover letter is optional. However, international faxes are limited to a single document of up to 15 pages.

How FaxZero Ranks

FaxZero did not make our list of the top online fax services. While it’s fine for personal use, international faxing, and the occasional one-off fax, it’s not suitable for high-volume faxing or business users. There are other options on the market for anyone that needs to send faxes on a regular basis. Those alternative options typically come with other perks, fewer restrictions, and a more enjoyable user experience.

Summary

FaxZero is a basic online fax service that makes it easy for anyone with internet access to send faxes without an actual fax machine. If you send faxes infrequently and don’t want to create an account or pay a monthly fee, FaxZero gets the job done. But we do not recommend FaxZero for business use, high-volume faxing, or sending sensitive information. It just falls a bit short compared to the best services in the online fax space.
