In WordPress, the footer exists as a separate file named footer.php, which loads with every page of your site. So any changes that you make to footer.php will reflect across your site.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

5 Ways To Edit the Footer in WordPress<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

1. Edit the Footer With WordPress Theme Customizer<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The WordPress Theme Customizer is an option in your WordPress dashboard that allows you to customize your site\u2019s appearance, edit its header and footer, change its titles, and other universal settings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is the most secure and user-friendly way to edit the footer in WordPress.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Note<\/strong>: We\u2019re using a popular WordPress theme named Astra<\/a>, which has additional customization options. But you\u2019ll find the footer editing options in every theme.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

First, sign in to your WordPress dashboard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Go to Appearance \u2192 Customize<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the website customization menu, click on Footer<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You can edit the footer by using widgets to add new sections or by editing the content and style of the footer bar. Click on Footer Bar<\/strong> to continue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2. Add Widgets To Your WordPress Footer<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Widgets are small content blocks that you can drag & drop in different sections of your site to insert text, videos, images, HTML code, etc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Many WordPress themes give you the option to edit the footer with widgets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Log in to your WordPress site\u2019s dashboard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Go to Appearance \u2192 Widgets<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On this page, you\u2019ll see multiple footer sections. These are the different blocks within your site\u2019s footer that you can edit using widgets. Click on Footer Widget Area 1<\/strong> to open it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the left side of the Widgets page, you can see different widgets that you can drag and drop to the different footer bar sections. Click and drag the Custom HTML widget to Footer Bar Section 1.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You can copy any script or code to this footer widget. Once you\u2019re done, click Save<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The text widget is also quite popular and comes with the standard WordPress editor and full formatting options, including adding media. Drag it to Footer Bar Section 2.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After entering your text, click Save <\/strong>to publish the widget in your footer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As you can see, editing the footer in WordPress using widgets is even easier than the previous method.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

3. Add a Menu to WordPress Footer <\/h3>\n\n\n\n

You can edit the footer in WordPress by adding a menu to it. Whether or not you can edit the footer through a WordPress menu depends on the theme you\u2019re using<\/strong>. Some will allow you to add a menu to the primary navigation bar and the footer, while others will only let you do one or the other. And some won\u2019t have menus in use at all.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Here\u2019s how it works if you can add menus to your footer. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sign in to your WordPress site\u2019s dashboard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Go to Appearance \u2192 Menus<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Click on create a new menu<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Give your footer menu a unique name that\u2019s easily identifiable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In Menu Settings<\/strong> under Display Location<\/strong>, select the checkbox next to Footer Menu. If \u201cFooter Menu\u201d isn\u2019t under Display Location, your theme doesn\u2019t allow you to add menus to your footer.<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Click Create Menu<\/strong> to finish the basic setup of your menu and move to the next step.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now, you need to choose the links that will appear in your menu. Select all the relevant pages from Add menu items<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Click Add to Menu<\/strong> to move these pages to your newly created menu.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You can also add any posts, custom links, and categories to your menu from the \u201cadd menu items\u201d section.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Once you add all the pages to your menu, you can drag them into any order you like.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you want to add an existing menu to your footer, follow these steps<\/strong>. Remember, you can only add menus to your footer if your theme allows it. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Click on Manage Location<\/strong> on the Menus page.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

4. Add An HTML Code Or Script To The Footer<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

You can edit the footer in WordPress by placing different scripts or any kind of code in it.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Here\u2019s the process you need to follow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Log in to your WordPress dashboard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Go to Plugins \u2192 Add New<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Search for the plugin \u201cInsert Headers and Footers\u201d in the search bar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Locate the Insert Headers and Footers plugin and click Install<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Click Activate<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now go to Settings \u2192 Insert Headers and Footers<\/strong> on your WordPress dashboard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the plugin\u2019s page, scroll down to Scripts in Footer<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Copy your code\/script in this text box.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Click Save <\/strong>to publish the changes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You\u2019ve successfully added your code\/script above the closing <\/body> tag. This isn\u2019t a mistake. Your scripts get added just above the closing body tag even though you\u2019re editing the footer. Go to a preview of your site to confirm your footer edits were successful. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

5. Remove \u201cPowered By WordPress\u201d From The Footer<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

A quick edit most people like to do to their footer in WordPress is to remove \u201cPowered by WordPress.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You can do this through Appearance \u2192 Customizer in your WordPress dashboard in some themes, as previously shown in this post.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But if your theme\u2019s customization options don\u2019t allow editing the footer<\/strong>, you\u2019ll need to remove it by editing the code of your site\u2019s footer.php file.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We don\u2019t usually recommend editing the code directly, but this one\u2019s simple.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Here\u2019s how to do it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Note<\/strong>: We\u2019ve used the TwentySixteen<\/a> WordPress theme for this example.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sign in to your site\u2019s WordPress dashboard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Go to Appearance \u2192 Theme Editor<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the Theme Files list on the right of your screen, find and click on footer.php<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"WordPress<\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Before editing the code of this file, press CTRL+A<\/strong> to select the code and press CTRL+C<\/strong> to copy it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now, open a new Notepad<\/strong> file on your computer. Paste the code in the blank Notepad file. This is your code\u2019s backup in case anything goes wrong.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Back in the footer.php window, press CTRL+F<\/strong> to open the text search box. Type \u201cpowered by\u201d into the search box.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
