What might it look like in action?<\/p>\n<p>In my example, I\u2019ve just built an online course I want people to buy. To increase customer acquisition, I might:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Send new emails to anyone who hasn\u2019t opened other emails I\u2019ve sent.<\/li>\n<li>Email influencers and bloggers to invite them to check out my course for free.<\/li>\n<li>Partner with another entrepreneur in my industry to exchange guest posts, social media links, and other outreach.<\/li>\n<li>Revise my landing pages and product descriptions to address specific pain points and goals.<\/li>\n<li>Get active on online channels my customers use, from forums to social.<\/li>\n<li>Revise landing and sales page copy to focus on key benefits my course offers that others don\u2019t.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><a id=\"customer-acquisition-techniques\"><\/a>The Best Customer Acquisition Techniques and Examples<\/h2>\n<p>I\u2019ve been in the marketing business for a long time. Trust me when I tell you that customer acquisition has consistently been a major part of my growth-hacking strategies.<\/p>\n<p>I want to grow my businesses as fast and efficiently as possible. To do so, I need a way to bring in more qualified prospects \u2014 and then convince them to buy.<\/p>\n<p>How? I come up with a theory or hypothesis, test it, examine the data, and pivot as necessary. It\u2019s worked for me, so I think it can help you.<\/p>\n<h3>Start defining your strategy<\/h3>\n<p>You have to start with an initial customer acquisition strategy. It won\u2019t be perfect \u2014 it might not even work \u2014 but everybody starts somewhere.<\/p>\n<p>Begin with what you know. Maybe you\u2019ve done some market research or sold a different product. Perhaps you have reams of data about your target audience.<\/p>\n<p>Use that information to increase your odds of effective customer acquisition.<\/p>\n<h3>Create an estimate for your customer acquisition cost<\/h3>\n<p>Your customer acquisition cost is the amount of money you spend to acquire each customer who makes a purchase.<\/p>\n<p>In other words, it\u2019s the cost of everything you spend \u2014 such as on marketing and advertising \u2014 divided by the total number of people who buy your product or service.<\/p>\n<p>Let\u2019s say that you spend $10,000 over 30 days. You acquire 1,000 customers. This means that your customer acquisition cost is $10.<\/p>\n<p>But that\u2019s not the end of the story.<\/p>\n<p>Products can cost anywhere from $0.01 to $10 million or more. Those are obviously extremes, but you get the picture.<\/p>\n<p>Now, going with our customer acquisition cost of $10, we have to look at the average spend for your business to see how you\u2019re doing financially.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Let\u2019s say you sell one product for $50. If you spend $10 to acquire that customer, you pocket $40.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">However, what if you sell your product for $2? That means you\u2019re going into debt to the tune of $8 per customer on your customer acquisition cost. That\u2019s never a good thing.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Estimate what you think your customer acquisition cost is, then track it over time. Consumers tend to take the same basic route from brand awareness to purchase, but the specific touch points vary.<\/p>\n<p>You need to understand your conversion funnel if you want to figure out how to boost customer acquisition.<\/p>\n<p>You can start with other people\u2019s research. It\u2019s also based on need \u2014 my microwave\u2019s broken, so I need a new one if I want to heat up some leftovers from last night.<\/p>\n<p>But let\u2019s say I\u2019m buying a car. A microwave might cost $75 or so, but a car can cost $30,000 or more. That\u2019s a big difference.<\/p>\n<p>For that conversion funnel, I\u2019m reading articles, visiting dealership websites, taking test drives, and more.<\/p>\n<p>You have to figure out how people come to find your product and when and why they decide to buy it.<\/p>\n<h3>Build your landing pages and optimize them<\/h3>\n<p>Start by creating your landing pages. Each should have a single call to action \u2014 an invitation for the customer to fulfill a desired action.<\/p>\n<p>When it comes to customer acquisition, your landing pages should direct consumers to buy your product or service.<\/p>\n<p>Running effective A\/B tests can drastically improve your customer acquisition results on landing pages. You generate data while improving upon other aspects of your website\u2019s design, layout, copy, and assets.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Start with your copy. You might change a single word in a headline on your latest landing page. Test the control against a variation.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Finally, test the design of the page itself. Try a landing page with no navigation and one with a navigation bar. Choose a replacement image, make the font larger or smaller, or shift elements into new formations.<\/p>\n<h3>Test different calls to action and other elements<\/h3>\n<p>Your <a href=\"https:\/\/www.crazyegg.com\/blog\/call-to-action-examples\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">calls to action<\/a> (CTAs) are extremely important if you want people to buy your product or service. Without a compelling reason, consumers might simply leave the page.<\/p>\n<p>However, you don\u2019t want to leave this up to chance. You\u2019ll need to continuously test your calls to action so you don\u2019t miss out on recent changes in wants and needs.<\/p>\n<p>For instance, in a poor economic climate, price becomes the most important element in most <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thebalance.com\/consumer-spending-trends-and-current-statistics-3305916\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">consumers\u2019 decision-making processes<\/a>. After a recession, consumer confidence builds very slowly, which means that consumers want the cheapest price possible.<\/p>\n<p>If you know your customers make decisions based on price, you need to highlight your low price, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.crazyegg.com\/blog\/overcome-objections\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">overcome objections<\/a>, and perhaps use discount codes and coupons to encourage conversions.<\/p>\n<p>You can also give the illusion of savings based on how you present your offer. Notice that the company recommends the most expensive option, but they help alleviate the pain point with the discount.<\/p>\n<p>Keep testing your CTA as well as the surrounding copy to make it easier for your prospects to say, \u201cYes.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3>Improve email and website engagement<\/h3>\n<p>Segmented email lists are far more powerful than one big list. Why? Because the people on your list are at different parts of the sales funnel.<\/p>\n<p>Some are at the top, just getting to know your brand and perhaps slightly aware of their desire to buy something you sell.<\/p>\n<p>At the bottom, though, they\u2019re ready to take action.
