Here&#8217;s why.<!--more--><\/p>\n<h2>How Big is the Mobile and Social Audience?<\/h2>\n<p>In the US alone, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pewinternet.org\/2015\/04\/01\/us-smartphone-use-in-2015\/\">Pew Research Center<\/a>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Two-thirds of Americans own a smartphone<\/li>\n<li>15% of Americans own smartphones and have limited other options for getting online.<\/li>\n<li>10% of Americans own smartphones with no other way to get online.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Worldwide, the number of smartphones <a href=\"https:\/\/www.statista.com\/statistics\/330695\/number-of-smartphone-users-worldwide\/\">is forecast<\/a> to reach 2.06 billion by the end of 2016.<\/p>\n<p>There&#8217;s more. Another study by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pewinternet.org\/fact-sheets\/social-networking-fact-sheet\/\">Pew Research Center<\/a> shows that 40% of cell phone owners use social media on their phones, with 28% doing so daily. Social media users are active, sharing zettabytes of data every minute of every day. In fact, the majority of Facebook&#8217;s billion-plus users use the site <a href=\"https:\/\/expandedramblings.com\/index.php\/facebook-mobile-app-statistics\/\">only on mobile devices.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>In other words, you can&#8217;t ignore these audiences when undertaking your conversion optimization strategy. Gathering data on what&#8217;s happening now is an important part of this. Google Analytics has always been a great tool to gain audience insight, and that includes your mobile and social audience. For example, this overview shows that tablet traffic bounces less and spends longer looking at traffic than either of the other types, and\u00a0are more likely to return than the other two segments.
