Join.me is the top conference calling software choice for remote collaboration and client reaching. It has a robust set of features and excellent streaming capabilities designed to offer two services: hosting a meeting and joining meetings.

Part of the LogMeIn family of services, the software tool offers a no-frills approach to online meetings. You get impressive features like real-time presentations, toll-free audio, mobile whiteboards, and instant screen sharing, among others—all at an affordable price—making it the go-to option for startups and small companies.

It has a user-friendly interface that makes it hassle-free for everyone, irrespective of their conference calling expertise. Setting up a meeting couldn’t be easier!

Although there are other more comprehensive options, Join.me is still a viable choice for those looking for powerful and feature-rich video conferencing software to meet online in an instant. Read on to understand just how well it compares to other companies in the conference calling niche.

What’s the Deal With Join.me? Was It Bought?

As mentioned previously, Join.me is a LogMeIn product, one of the world’s largest SaaS companies worth over $1 billion.

Launched in 2010, the collaboration tool was designed to make online meetings simple and easy. People don’t have to download anything and can use it for free and get started within seconds.

Despite the increasing conversions, the Join.me team worked tirelessly to revolutionize the online meeting space while retaining their main philosophy of simplicity. Their first initiative was launching a video feature.

In April 2015, Craig Daniel, the VP of Product at Join.me, introduced a Join.me video conferencing beta version, which officially debuted a month later.

LogMeIn built the technology in-house by leveraging WebRTC and HTML5 that let users join video calls without downloading software. Attendees could join meetings directly from their Google Chrome web browsers–which retained the goal of simplicity.

In addition to the video feature, the team made the user interface more functional and fun. The individual video feeds are designed in the form of “bubbles“ that can be moved, manipulated, and even bounced around the screen.

Perhaps fuelled by LogMeIn’s recent decision to sell private equity firms, there was even talk about Join.me being sold. That isn’t the case, though.

Instead, LogMeIn absorbed Join.me into GoToMeeting, another leader in the web and video conferencing niche, to create a powerful, user-friendly, and well-rounded online meeting product. Furthermore, the Join.me video libraries are also used in Rescue Lens, a service that allows customer support representatives to help customers troubleshoot by using their smartphone’s camera.

Even greater news? LogMeIn already plans on expanding the technology to include other offerings, such as Internet of Things services.

Can You Still Purchase Join.me?

Yes, you can still purchase Join.me, albeit indirectly.

As you now know, the parent company has absorbed the service into their other product, GoToMeeting. If you go to purchase the service on https://www.join.me/, you’ll be redirected to the GoToMeeting website.

Moreover, LogMeIn has decided to discontinue the Join.me freemium plan and only offers paid versions. To continue hosting Join.me meetings, users must upgrade to their premium plans.

Join.me: The Good and the Bad

The Good

Higher Maximum Limit. After merging Join.me with GoToMeeting, LogMeIn increased the maximum number of participants for conference calls. The Lite plan, which only allowed up to five participants for a meeting, was scrapped. The new plans now offer from 150 participants up to 3000 participants for meetings.

Feature-rich Audio and Video Calling Solution. It offers feature-rich, unlimited duration video conferencing, where every participant can join from a different device, including desktops and mobile phones. And if you just want to dial into a conference without video, you can do that, too.

Clear Audio and Video Quality. Users have always loved the clear audio quality and optimal video clarity of Join.me. You’ll never have to worry about those awkward moments when your colleague’s face or voice freezes halfway through a meeting.

Calendar App Integrations. Scheduling and setting up conference calls is incredibly easy with Join.me, thanks to seamless integrations with calendar apps like Google Chrome, Microsoft Outlook, and Office 365.

Easy and Efficient Remote Collaboration. All the paid plans give you access to several excellent and useful features to facilitate remote team collaboration. From instant screen sharing to sharing and reviewing documents to demonstrating products for prospects, everything is possible with Join.me. It also provides screen sharing and webinars with big groups, making it easier to send presentations, among other tasks.

Mobile Whiteboard Facilitates Remote Collaboration. It offers a unique mobile whiteboard that lets teams collaborate in real-time on any project. Users can draw, edit, annotate, and add images to the whiteboard simultaneously.

Top-Notch Security. All your information—voice, video, and message—is secured with advanced 256-bitch TLS encryption to protect it from malicious third parties. Additionally, none of the information is stored on the software’s servers, and all recordings are fully encrypted while at rest. You get a random code every time we start a new meeting, which reduces the risk of any uninvited guests gaining access to your meeting. The meeting lock feature is another advantage.

Easy Presentations With Full Control. Presenters have complete control over audio and video quality. They can mute and unmute participants any time, plus select who has their webcams on and off. Swapping presenters mid-meeting is also easy.

No Need to Download App. Downloading the software or app isn’t necessary. If you want to view someone else’s screen, you can do so by simply clicking on the URL—no need to download Join.me.

The Bad

No Free Plan: After merging with GoToMeeting, the Join.me free plan was scrapped. So if you do want to try out the collaboration tool, you’ll have to sign up for one of the paid plans. This can be inconvenient for those who prefer testing out the software before making a purchase. The good news is that all of them are competitively priced.

Lack of Advanced Features: Join.me has openly advertised that their main priority is to simplify conference calls. And while you can expect various administrative control features, don’t expect anything too fancy or advanced. All the tools are mostly basic, designed to streamline video conferencing.

Customer Support Needs Improvement. While the customer support isn’t that bad, Join.me could undoubtedly do better. The phone support is often busy with long wait times with no email contact options. That said, there is an extensive self-help library available filled with useful resources to help troubleshoot and solve common problems.

Mobile App Needs Work. Some users have pointed out how the video and audio quality drops when accessed from the mobile app on cellular data, even with a strong signal. Hopefully, the team will start improving the mobile app to eliminate these issues.

Random Glitches. Join.me can get glitchy at times, which, in turn, causes calls to disconnect out of the blue. Even the screen can freeze randomly. While the glitch frequency is limited, it can still get annoying for users, especially those talking to potential clients and wanting to make a good first impression.

No Video Call Recording—Only Audio. Join.me does offer call recording, but not in the traditional sense. You can record only the audio portion of your calls—not the video. Interestingly, any components of a call involving screen sharing are recorded and can be viewed later.

Small Video Bubbles. While most people love the bubble format, some feel they are a bit small. The tiny video bubbles leave a lot to be desired for users who want to have conversations with people without screen sharing.

Join.me: Pricing and Options

Join.me Pricing

Join.me offers a tailor-made collaborative, video conferencing solution for your organization today. Currently, you can choose from three different plans:

  • Professional — Starting from $9.62 per organizer per month, billed annually. This supports a maximum of 150 participants.
  • Business — Starting from $12.82 per organizer per month, billed annually. This supports a maximum of 150 participants.
  • Enterprise — You’ll have to contact the company for customized packages that suit your company’s needs. In addition to supporting 3000 participants, this plan gives you access to bundled discounts on meetings, webinars, room solutions, and phones.

Initially, Join.me offered three products: Individuals, Teams, and Businesses. But after merging with GoToMeeting, these plans ceased to exist.

Today, you can select from GoToMeeting, specially designed to do online meetings from any device. In other words, Join.me and GoToMeeting are now a part of the same LogMeIn umbrella.

Our Recommendation: Choose Another Conference Call Service

Not only are they one of the top conference call services on the market, but they can also easily accommodate the needs of small businesses, larger businesses, and everything in between. We can host audio, video, or web meetings from any device, allowing you to start, join, and facilitate within seconds.
