12 More Must-Read Analytics Blogs

by Sharon Hurley Hall

Analytics tools are the bedrock of conversion optimization. They capture the data that shows what’s happening on your web pages and help you analyze it so you know what to change and can assess whether your new strategy is working.

But using analytics tools is not always straightforward. Many analytics packages need to be tweaked and configured so you can get real insights, and sometimes you need a little bit of help.

Luckily, there are plenty of experts around who live and breathe analytics and can help everyone from newbies to experienced users get more from their analytics setup.

analytics-blogs

A couple of years ago Crazy Egg published a list of must-read analytics blogs. And though we still like and read the blogs on that list, there’s always room for more.

So here’s an alphabetical list of some other writers and blogs it’s worth following to get even more help with the analytics part of your conversion strategy.

1. Adobe’s Digital Marketing Blog

Despite the title, analytics is one of the major topics for Adobe’s Digital Marketing Blog.  As you would expect, there’s a preference for the company’s own digital marketing solutions, but you can still get useful insight into using data that you can apply to other tools, and it’s a mine of knowledge on other aspects of marketing.

Whether you’re looking for tips and tricks, best practices or a perspective on the latest developments, this blog is worth a read.

A case in point: this article on What Is App Indexing and How Can You Use It?

2. Analytics Pros

Founded by Caleb Whitmore, Analytics Pros brings together what they call “a team of uber-geeks” to collect and share data insights.

As well as analytics, the blog covers conversion optimization, SEO, digital strategy, mobile, among other topics. It’s a great place to keep up with what’s happening in analytics, publishing regular roundups of the latest news and opinions. It also covers segmentation, data visualization, creating dashboards and more.

If you want to get technical, check out this article on extending Google Analytics with API.

3. Annielytics

Annielytics is the blog of Annie Cushing who loves “everything to do with making data sexy.” It aims to provide practical strategies for using analytics for business owners with limited time and resources.

If you want to understand regular expressions, campaign tagging, profile filters, metrics and dimensions, as well as tips and tools you can use, all explained in plainish English (well, sometimes she has to get technical, you know), then this is the blog for you.

My pick: an article on KPIs titled Why Google Analytics’ User Metrics Are BS [For Most Sites].

4. Blast Analytics Marketing

Blast Analytics Marketing’s blog focuses on four topics: website optimization, SEO, online marketing and, of course, analytics. Whether you’re interested in seeing how your download links are converting, checking on scroll depth or seeing how your email marketing is doing, there’s plenty of good advice here.

This guide to cross-domain tracking in analytics is a useful example.

5. The Content Marketing Institute

If the Content Marketing Institute seems an unlikely source of analytics information, think again. There are dozens of articles on analytics covering everything from getting started with analytics to using the data to create personas, get content ideas and and optimize your content for greater appeal and better conversions.

This article on 3 Content Optimization Questions That Google Analytics Can Answer is a case in point, and there are many more, making this blog a real goldmine.

6. E-Nor

E-Nor is all about digital analytics and marketing optimization (something the CrazyEgg team are passionate about too).  Check out the tag list on the E-Nor blog and you’ll see more than a dozen topics related to analytics.

Whether you want to recover a deleted account, get to grips with tags, use filters or find out about another Google Analytics feature, you’re likely to find it here.

This screenshot-filled article on cookie deletion is a good example of what E-Nor offers.

7. Jeffalytics

The person behind Jeffalytics is digital marketing consultant Jeff Sauer. The blog is also known as “Depth of Knowledge” and that’s what it aims to offer.

Not only does Jeffalytics shine the spotlight on a range of digital marketing practices, but the articles show how to improve the quality of your analytics data (essential for conversion optimization), measure ROI with analytics and track how your content is performing.

His recent take on Mobilegeddon is worth a read.

8. Koozai

I first came across Koozai when researching an article on custom Google Analytics dashboards, and I’ve kept a weather eye on them ever since. As well as articles on analytics, you’ll find information on branding, social media, paid search and content marketing on the Koozai blog.

There’s plenty of great information there, but it’s hard not to love Koozai’s guide to using CrazyEgg. 😉

9. Loves Data

With LovesData, the name says it all. The blog publishes prolifically on Google Analytics and also covers remarketing, conversions, SEO, social media and much, much more. Data mashups, segment sharing, regular expressions — there’s a lot to take in.

My pick this time round is a back-to-basics guide to goals.

10. Lunametrics

Lunametrics is a Google Analytics Certified Partner, so it’s no surprise that the company has a lot to say about this free tool. While the blog covers conversion, email marketing, social media and much more, it’s worth digging into the intricacies of Universal Analytics best practices, custom dimensions, cohort analysis  and setting and refining goals.

Whether you’re looking to understand the basic Google Analytics tools or go deeper, the Lunametrics blog is a great resource. A recent article on identifying and filtering internal traffic is an excellent example of the quality on offer.

11. Moz

If you’re a conversion optimizer, the chances are you already read Moz.  (Actually that goes for people interested in SEO, social media marketing, branding and blogging too). But there’s so much content there that it’s worth focusing on the site’s analytics category.

A quick browse shows articles on content analysis, eliminating referral spam, structured data and data visualization.

My pick? An article titled CRO Statistics: How to Avoid Reporting Bad Data. If you’re going to browse Moz, grab a cup of coffee before you start reading — articles tend to be long.

12. Tatvic

Like Lunametrics, Tatvic is a Google Analytics Certified Partner, and regularly publishes posts on all aspects of the tool.  Some of these can get pretty technical and topics range from lead generation to custom dimensions to reporting, covering a lot of territory in between.

A good example (though it comes with a code snippet alert) is a post on mobile app tracking.

That’s it for this roundup. Are any of your favorite analytics blogs missing from the list? Please share below.
