GetResponse: The Good and the Bad

There are many factors to judge email marketing platforms on. GetResponse is a high-quality solution for a lot of people, but delving into its virtues and flaws will help reveal whether it is a good fit for your business in particular.

What GetResponse Is Good At

GetResponse is designed to help you create and carry out impactful email marketing campaigns in line with your sales strategy. The tool is rich in features while still being easy to use for people with varying skill levels.

Ease of use: GetResponse is particularly kind to newcomers to the world of email marketing. Its dashboard and user interface are easy to navigate and distraction-free. What’s more, the platform has an excellent guided onboarding process, walking you through the process of building your first email campaign with helpful videos. Plus, its templates and drag-and-drop builder make designing emails and landing pages simple.

This is all accentuated by GetResponse’s 24/7 chat support. Its reps are knowledgeable, helpful, and quick to respond to requests. Newbies and advanced users alike can receive assistance in an instant.

Conversion funnels: This is where the strength of the platform truly lies. GetResponse has become much more than an email marketing tool—you can use it to set up powerful opt-in, lead magnet, sales, and webinar funnels. There are even readymade automated funnels for you to work with straight away. Automation is key if you want to use personalization at scale.

GetResponse’s strategic, sequential approach to email marketing has numerous benefits for users. Nurture and convert leads with highly targeted campaigns. Build engagement and customer loyalty through relevant messaging. And create landing pages to collect tons of interested subscribers and turn one-time visitors into loyal customers.

Quality autoresponders: With GetResponse, you’re able to sit back and let the tool do the work for you. With automated sequences, you can focus your time and resources on the more strategic side of things. Plus, the automation builder is easy enough to use that almost anybody can set up an advanced automation tree in minutes. Adapt pre-built sequences or build your own from scratch.

The automation features also allow for advanced segmentation. Create lists of subscribers with similar qualities or behaviors, then send out personalized messaging at the recipient’s preferred time. Naturally, this level of personalization means that recipients are more likely to respond and take action.

Freedom to design: GetResponse allows you to create professional-looking emails with ease. Users love the vast number of email templates available, but you can also use the super smooth drag-and-drop editor to customize emails to match your branding. It’s also easy to find and reuse design elements from emails that have been successful in the past. Either way, it’s easy to make your emails stand out, even with limited or no design skills.

Solid reporting: GetResponse has first-rate analytics and reporting features, helped by its tools for email recipient and website visitor tracking. Reports can be super detailed, all the way down to the actions of individual subscribers. The tool even builds up detailed profiles for you to help you make future campaigns more targeted. Email analytics are updated in real-time and let you gather insights on campaign performance, engagement, and audience preferences.

What GetResponse Is Lacking

While this is a top-notch email marketing tool, GetResponse still has some notable shortcomings. Let’s examine those so you can judge if any of these are deal breakers for your organization.

Integration limitations: When you implement a new tool, you want something that fits into your existing tech stack easily. Unfortunately, this is an area where GetResponse falls short. While it can connect with over 120 different apps and pieces of software, there are some notable omissions, particularly with project management platforms. And some key integrations like PayPal and Eventbrite can only be accomplished through Zapier, which may not be as reliable as a native integration.

Non-responsive landing page design: Having a built-in landing page builder is a huge help, but GetResponse’s tool doesn’t automatically create mobile-friendly versions. Thus, you have to design the landing page view for mobile visitors separately. This seems like a big miss, given that so many of your visitors are likely to end up at your landing page on their mobile devices.

User-side mobile issues: Furthermore, the drag-and-drop editor is difficult to use on mobile. Aside from making small, rudimentary changes, it’s unlikely you’ll be able to edit your landing pages on the go, though the GetResponse mobile app is very capable at showing you progress and analysis of your campaigns.

Plan limitations: GetResponse’s basic plan used to include more automation features, but eventually made those only accessible on higher-cost plans. took this away, much to the dismay of long-time customers. To unlock advanced automation and segmentation, you’ll need to pony up for at least the second-highest priced plan, which costs around $41 per month for up to 1,000 contacts.

GetResponse Options and Pricing

GetResponse’s paid plans are split into three packages that are aimed at companies with different marketing goals and needs. The price of each package increases as add more subscribers. Let’s take a look at these options in detail.

GetResponse Email Marketing

The Email Marketing plan allows you to set up a basic funnel for your business. On this entry-level paid plan, you can create a website and an unlimited number of landing pages to collect signups. You’re then able to segment these subscribers but only based on the information you already have stored on them. You also get autoresponders to use for specific moments in the customer journey.

All in all, this plan would be suitable for small businesses, solo entrepreneurs, affiliate marketers, bloggers, and the like. In other words, those who don’t need complex automations right away.

Pricing starts at $13.30 per month for 1,000 contacts if you commit to a two-year contract, or $19 if you want to pay month-to-month. The price also increases incrementally if you need to accommodate more than 1,000 subscribers, up to 100,000.

GetResponse Marketing Automation

This is the plan you need if you want to employ more advanced automation and segmentation. Along with all of the stuff in the above package, you get access to trigger and event-based sequences. Create automated email chains in which customers receive different email content or are placed into different segments depending on their preferences or actions.

Let’s say a customer clicks on two pieces of content in the same category. This shows they have a vested interest in this type of content or product category. And they’ll be added to an automated workflow based on these interests. Thus, they only receive the content or offers most relevant to them. For example, if you run a gym and you learn that the customer is interested in swimming and exercise classes, you wouldn’t send them content or offers related to weight training.

We’d be remiss not to mention that this plan also includes access to the webinar builder.  So this package would be especially handy for B2B and tech companies that are looking to nurture leads through more advanced, complex content. Furthermore, the marketing automation plan includes contact scoring and sales funnels.

Pricing begins at $41.30 per month for 1,000 contacts for a two-year term or $59 for month-to-month billing. Again, the price will increase if you have a list exceeding 1,000.

GetResponse Ecommerce Marketing

This plan includes all of the automation and segmentation features of the other two plans, and adds web push notifications, abandoned cart recovery, transactional emails, product recommendations, and promo codes. As such, you can use these tools to increase sales for your online store.

For example, you might send automated product recommendations based on previous purchases or automated reminder emails when a customer leaves something in their cart. This really makes your automated sequences sing.

The platform can also connect to payment processors, allowing you to build shoppable emails and make sales through your GetResponse website. Hence, this plan provides an all-in-one platform for e-commerce sales and marketing.

The package starts at $83.30 per month for 1,000 contacts on a two-year contract or $119 per month for monthly billing. This option can get pricey if you need to handle a lot of subscribers, climbing as high as $699 per month for 100,000 contacts.

GetResponse in Summary

GetResponse is a stellar tool to help you deliver effective marketing campaigns. Whether you’re looking for more subscribers, more sales, or to increase customer loyalty, there are features and automations in this software to help you achieve that.

Another aspect that stands out here is how helpful the brand is as a whole. It does everything within its power to help you get the most out of the tool, including getting you set up with an easy-to-follow onboarding pathway and 24/7 tech support.

But don’t forget that there are other options on the market if you don’t think GetResponse is quite right for you. Constant Contact is our top choice for a lot of people because of its best-in-class tracking and analytics. MailerLite and Omnisend are also great tools to consider if you’re a novice or an ecommerce marketer, respectively.
